Lake Advisory 10/12/18

This Sunday evening at 6:00pm, Lake Community Church is having a Wedding Vow Renewal event called, “We Still Do.” This is an opportunity for married couples; no matter how many years you have been married, to renew the vows they made to one another on their wedding day. This will also be a reminder of the vows we made to God in our wedding. I have been an officiant for a couple’s decision to renew their vows, and I have always been moved by how the couples respond when they revisit their vows; when they simply say them again to one another. There is a type of eye-opening moment, or should a say, a heart-opening moment, that what they said to each other years ago is still true today. After all the ups and downs that come with a marriage, and with the odds stacked against them by the views of marriage in our culture, the realization that God has been right there with them the whole journey begins to surface, and there is a new understanding of the words of their original commitment. They have trusted God with their marriage, and in that moment they recognize His faithfulness.

I really wish I could put into words what that moment feels like. Only those couples who make that decision to renew their vows can explain it to you. They may have had their personal reasons for planning a vow renewal, but it is always evident that God’s plan seems to make itself known in the ceremony. I am so looking forward to this Sunday evening’s Wedding Vow Renewal Ceremony. We have about 20 couples signed up so far and this Sunday is the last chance to register to be a part of this special event. Again, this promises to be a special night at The Lake…a night of renewing our vow of love to our spouse, and our vow to God because of His love for us.

Upcoming events at The Lake:

“Bless This Home”
This Sunday we begin a new teaching series, “Bless This Home”. For the past several months we have been focused on the individual life and growth of a believer; what it means to really pray; how to know if God is still doing miracles in our life; and, how we are to respond when God answers our prayers, and when the answer may take while. This series will bring our focus on our family; how we function as a Christian family; how we relate to one another in our family. I think we’d all agree, we want our family to enjoy peace, happiness, and contentment, but so often we stumble through our most important relationships. In “Bless This Home,” we’ll discover four family-altering qualities: purity, peace, righteousness, and persecution. So, won’t you join us this Sunday at 9:30 and 11:00am for week 1 of “Bless This Home”.

Our Lake Students gather every Wednesday evening at 6:30pm @ The Lake. Next week they will begin a new study series; “Uncomfortable – The awkward and essential challenge of Christian Community.” next Friday evening, October 19th, is the Lake Students’ next Tailgate Event at East Rowan High School. For even more information about other upcoming Lake Students activities and events, please visit their website:

This week our Preschoolers will jump into Week 3 of “CLUE CATCHERS!” In this series we are pretending to be detectives who search for clues and solve mysteries about God using the Bible!

We are still in need of Volunteers for Lake Kids. if we can increase our pool of Volunteers in the next few weeks, we will again be able to provide an excellent and safe experience for all our children; K-5th Grade. Until then, we are only offering Lake Kids for children; Birth – 4 year olds. If you would like to volunteer in Lake Kids please contact Aubrey Doane ( or Shelly Riley (, or stop by our Resource Center in the Lobby this Sunday.

Fall Connection Group Semester
Our Fall Connection Groups will begin the second half of our current semester with our new teaching series, “Bless This House”. Maybe a full semester of a Connection Group seemed a little daunting, but what about four weeks. Four weeks to create new friendships; connect with other believers; four weeks to discuss a little further the struggles of family; four short weeks to grow in what it means to “be” the church. If you haven’t joined a Group yet, and are still thinking about it, there’s still time. Click on FALL GROUPS to see the list of Groups being offered and join there.

Trunkz o’ Treatz @ The Lake.
Plans are being made to offer another safe evening of family fun at The Lake on Halloween night, October 31st. We will be sending out more information about this event very soon, but for now…we know many of you will bring your cars and trucks all decorated and filled with candy to give away to our “guests”. Many of you will volunteer your time and energy to make sure everything moves along seamlessly from start to finish. Many of you will want to Volunteer to help out where needed. Right now, and as in years past, our largest need will be CANDY! This CANDY will be to help restock those trunks that begin to run our before the night is over. And, from past history, that can begin to happen rather quickly, depending on the crowd and the weather. This Sunday, you will see empty tubs in the Lobby for CANDY! donations. You will also find a signup sheet to register your car or truck’s “trunk” for this event. It all begins this Sunday at The Lake.

Operation Christmas Child
Can you believe we are already making plans for filling those Red and Green Shoeboxes again this year, and also making plans to volunteer at the Charlotte Distribution Center in December to prepare thousands of shoeboxes to be shipped around the world for a child’s Christmas. You will be able to pick up your empty Red and Green Shoeboxes in our Lobby very soon and if you’d like more information about Volunteering at the Samaritan’s Purse Distribution Center in Charlotte, please contact Emily Shepherd (

See you this Sunday at The Lake!
