Welcome to December and the beginning of the Christmas season at The Lake! Can you believe we are in the last month of 2020? I know there are many of us who are so ready for “this year” to come to an end. But, what better way to finish off “this year” than with a focus on Christmas as a “light at the end of the tunnel.” Of course, Christmas means so much more than that to us. Christmas reminds us of God’s greatest gift to us, His Son, Jesus; God with us; Immanuel.
So, for the next few weeks, can we put aside all our worries and fears about uncertainties we have no control over, and allow God’s love to surround us as we use this last month of 2020 to declare His name above every other name; to shout His name from every mountaintop; sing His praise for all the blessings we have received, and make this Christmas the Best Christmas Ever!
Tomorrow, we have a second wave of Volunteers from Lake Community Church headed to Charlotte to serve at the Processing Center for Operation Christmas Child; to sort through and pack for shipment thousands upon thousands of shoeboxes for children around the world.
As a church, we also have an opportunity to show the love of Jesus to local children through the Terrie Hess House’ Christmas Angel Project. All we have been asked to do for them this Christmas is to donate Amazon Gift Cards to be used by the Staff of the Terrie Hess House to purchase gifts for the children they minister to on a daily basis. These gifts will be shipped to each child’s home for their parents to wrap for Christmas morning. These gift cards will make it possible for these children to experience Christmas through the eyes and hearts of others; showing them they are cared for and loved.
To those who have already stopped by The Lake to drop of Amazon Gift Cards; “Thank you.” If your plans are to bring your Gift Cards this Sunday to one of our two Worship Gatherings, please place your Gift Cards in the specially marked package next to our Christmas Tree in the Lobby. All collected Amazon Gift Cards will need to be delivered to the Terrie Hess House by next Friday, December 11th. So, if you happen to be out of town this Sunday, and can’t be at our Worship Gatherings, you may still drop by The Lake next week, Tuesday – Thursday and drop off your Gift Cards. If you come by and no one is here, place your Gift Cards in our “Movie Return DropBox” to the right of our front doors. Thank you all in advance for helping to make this Christmas special for so many children.
As we are beginning to get into the season of Christmas; what better time to select a Bible Study from RightNow Media to add to your Christmas plans for this year; to learn a little more about God’s greatest gift to us. RightNow Media is filled with studies for your reading pleasure, and education. You may even want to share a study with some friends through the Christmas season. I encourage you to click the link RightNow to set up your personal account and continue your journey in becoming all you have been called to be as a follower of Jesus. You can now access your account, or even create an account from our website, www.thelake.church.
We still have our Covid precautions in place for everyone’s safety this Sunday morning:
The “LOBBY” is still the area outside the building between parking and front doors for the time being.
Use only Middle Double-Doors to enter and exit the building.
Masks are required at both our 9:30 and 11:00am Worship Gatherings. We ask that you please wear your mask for the entire Worship Gathering you attend. And, if I may, please wear your mask so that it covers your nose and mouth. Disposable masks are available if you forget to bring yours.
Doors will open at 9:15am for 9:30 Worship Gathering and 10:50am for our 11:00am Worship Gathering.
Lake Cafe` remains closed. (You may bring your own coffee and water)
Restrooms will be open but we request only 2 people in there at a time.
Seating in Auditorium is still “LIMITED” (75 seats in the Auditorium for each Worship Gathering; 50% capacity), so please allow Guest Services Volunteers to help find adequate seating for you and your family, and be prepared to maybe offer a seat next to you to a family that may need an extra seat for the service. (Please help us with our seating by choosing seats toward the front of the Auditorium as you come in, so we can help any who arrive later to not have to be guided through seats to the front, possibly interrupting your worship.)
No Connection Cards will be handed out. All notes, prayer requests, and 1st Time Connections and Prayer Requests can be shared at “I’m New” on mylake.church.
Everyone can use “Message Notes” on mylake.church, to follow along with the Scripture passages and take notes as well.
No Offering Baskets will be used to collect offerings. You may place your tithe or offering in baskets as you leave Auditorium, or Give Online at mylake.church.
No pens in seat pouches. (BYOP – Bring your own pen)
As you leave the Worship Gathering, please try to observe and respect “social distancing”.
If you have any reservations at all about being in a crowd of people; even if it is for a church service; or, if you have been around anyone with Covid-19 in the past two weeks; or, have shortness of breath or coughing; have a fever over 100; loss of sense of taste; not feeling well or, would just rather wait a little longer before returning to The Lake, then please join us online this Sunday at 9:30 or 11:00am at Lake Live Online.
Upcoming events at The Lake:
“The Best Christmas Ever”
This Sunday at 9:30 and 11:00am, we begin a new teaching series for Christmas; “The Best Christmas Ever.” I think we have had about enough of all the uncertainties of this year and it’s time to leave that all behind and focus on God’s gift to us; Jesus and His arrival here on earth. Each week of this series we will concentrate on what the birth of Jesus offers to us, and each week, we will be challenged to live our life as an example of the gift we’ve been given through Jesus’ birth. Join us this Sunday at 9:30 and 11:00am; either In-person or Online at Lake Live Online as we make plans for this year’s Christmas to be “The Best Christmas Ever.”
LAKE STUDENTS AT THE LAKE
Lake Students will be meeting this Wednesday evening, December 9th at 6:30pm to continue their study on “Courage.” Lake Students invites all Middle and High School aged students to come and be a part of what God is doing in the lives of students; using students to make a difference in this world. To learn more about Lake Students, please visit thelakestudents.com, or contact Eric Doane by email at email@example.com.
This Sunday, Lake Kids is Masks Required at the 9:30 and 11:00am Worship Gathering! We ask that your children please wear a mask to Lake Kids. Our 9:30am Lake Kids Ministry is open to all children; Nursery to 5th Grade. Our 11:00am Lake Kids Ministry will be open to Pre-K to 5th Grade. (No Nursery provided just yet at 11:00am)
Our Pre-K children will learn more about The First Christmas Gift this Sunday morning. They will learn that God Is Always With Us and that He will never leave us. Their memory verse: Matthew 1:23(NLT) “…they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” Our K-5 children continue their Bible study; God Is My Dad. This Sunday they learn that You can Trust God. Their Bible verse for this week is Psalm 33:4(NIV) For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.
Our Lake Kids Director, Amanda Stone, continues to share all the lessons and projects online for Lake Kids each week on our mylake.church website. And, our age appropriate Lake Kids Pack is still available for your child if you choose to have them sit with you in our Auditorium. There is also an added resource on your phone for your children in the Bible App for Kids.
We are so close to fully offering Lake Kids at both our Worship Gatherings on Sundays, but with the holidays approaching, more volunteers are needed than what we have serving now. If you would like to be a part of making a difference in a child’s life, please contact Amanda Stone at soon as you can. Her email is firstname.lastname@example.org, or email@example.com.
See you this Sunday at The Lake…Live and Online!
