At this time of year, it’s pretty easy to react to statements like: “Thanksgiving” and “Praise”. Most of us are already making plans for next week’s Thanksgiving feast with the family; making out the grocery list to include all the ingredients needed for that special meal; scheduling how each day will build on and lead up to the gathering of loved ones; and, dropping hints of how all the family can be a part of decorating for Christmas while you’re here.
Thanksgiving is such a special time of year for families, and when we have an opportunity to praise God for all He has blessed us with; all we are thankful for; our praise adds so much more to this time of year.
I am so thankful to everyone here at The Lake who carried an Operation Christmas Child Shoebox out of our Lobby over the past few weeks, because I know you have a plan for what you want to place inside that box; that special gift to brighten the eyes of a child that may been feeling neglected and forgotten. Your Shoebox has the unique potential to change the life of a child forever. Maybe you didn’t think about that when you carried the Shoebox home from church one Sunday, but the truth is…one day, a child will open your Shoebox and experience a time of “Thanksgiving & Praise” like they have never experienced before. All because you took the time to fill a Shoebox.
This Sunday, November 24th, is the last day to return your filled Shoebox so that it can be delivered to a collection site and transported to the Distribution Center in Charlotte, and then eventually around the world. So, don’t forget to bring your Shoeboxes to The Lake Lobby this Sunday and add your blessings to the growing stack of filled Shoeboxes. (If you forget Sunday morning, you can still bring them with you Sunday evening to our “Thanksgiving & Praise” service at 6:00pm)
If you are interested in serving at the Distribution Center for Samaritan’s Purse in Charlotte, please contact Emily Shepherd as soon as possible. Her email is firstname.lastname@example.org, or you can call The Lake; 980-643-4200.
And, concerning Sunday evening’s “Thanksgiving & Praise” service…I have been asked two important questions about this event. 1 – “Will there be childcare available for this service?” The answer is “Yes”; for children Pre-K and under. This will be mostly for toddlers and babies. 2 – “Is there a meal planned for after the service?” The answer is “No”.
Our “Thanksgiving & Praise” service will be an evening of worship, praise, prayer, Baptism, and taking part in the Lord’s Supper; Communion. This will be a special time for The Lake family and friends to come together in “Thanksgiving & Praise”; to celebrate together the blesses of God on our lives and on Lake Community Church; to worship our Heavenly father for who He is and what He has done for us; to celebrate those who have made a commitment to follow Jesus’ example of being baptized to continue their journey of becoming all God has called them to be; and, to remember Jesus’ sacrifice for us on the cross and His resurrection from the grave. What better way to thank God for all He has done for us than to come together in “Thanksgiving & Praise.”
See you Sunday morning at 9:30 or 11:00am, and Sunday evening at 6:00pm at The Lake.
