As you are well aware by now, our nation and the world seems to be in the grips of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The fear and uncertainty is all we hear or read about, and what most people talk about. I want to assure you that we have been, and are closely and carefully monitoring all recommendations from local and federal health officials. We are fully committed to the health and safety of all of our church family as we gather to worship on Sunday mornings and in Connection Groups throughout the week.
While the risk to contract this virus in our area currently remains low, in accordance with NC DHH recommendations, we are encouraging any of our church family members over the age of 65 and those with serious underlying health conditions to exercise caution in attending any large group gathering. Also, I want to encourage those who may be sick with a fever and/or cough to stay home and rest until you are well. We love sharing at The Lake, but we don’t mind you being stingy with your germs!
We also want to let you know about some new safety measures we will begin to implement this coming Sunday to keep you and your family safe, happy and healthy when you arrive at The Lake.
• Our Guest Services Team will greet you with a smile, wave, and perhaps an elbow bump, but don’t expect a hug or handshake.
• We will be disinfecting commonly touched surfaces like door handles, check-in stations, etc before and in between services to make sure our environment remains a safe one.
• All of our Lake Kid’s environments will also be sanitized between services so that our children will have clean, safe places to have fun and learn about Jesus. All toys and items will be wiped down after each service.
• We will have easy access to hand-sanitizer dispensers in the lobby and restrooms for your convenience.
• We will not be passing the baskets during our offering time; instead, we will ask you to deposit your tithe/offering envelope in baskets as you leave the service. You can also give safely and conveniently online at mylake.church. Just look for the little round blue icon in lower right of page and follow the instructions.
• If conditions worsen in the weeks ahead, and the need should arise for us to might any adjustments to our services, we will keep you posted on that and other developments by email, and Facebook.
If you have been sick this week, and aren’t quite sure about being around crowds, of any size, then please take any necessary precautions. If that means to remain at home this Sunday, please know we’ll miss you and will be praying for you.
This is a unique time for all of us. Most of us have never experienced a pandemic, and I’ve certainly never pastored through one. We want to proceed with great wisdom, while also living a fearlessly bold life of faith, realizing that “…God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7) Throughout history, Christians have revolutionized their communities by running into danger while others hid. Early Christians flipped the Roman Empire on its head during the great plague by caring for the sick and dying while others fled the city. Let us leverage this season wisely, as we love God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength, and love our neighbors as ourselves—even when it’s risky. I love you and wouldn’t want to navigate this crisis with anyone else. I can’t wait to worship with you this Sunday!
One more thing…wash you hands!
One other reminder…
We are still encouraging folks who have, or are planning to begin making your contributions to Lake Community Church online; please be sure to visit our new website; mylake.church and look for the cool little “Rocker Guy” icon in the lower right corner of the page. This will be your link to generously support Lake Community Church from basically anywhere you might be, or at anytime you choose to give your tithe, or special offering.
Now, if you have used online giving in the past through thelake.church, or the Church Center App on your phone, you will need to close that process; especially if you have an automatic draft set up through your checking account. Soon, all of the online contributions to The Lake will be handled by a new server; Rebel Give. You will need to set up, or activate a new account by clicking on the “Rocker Guy” icon and then…be sure to do this…Sign In and create an Account/Profile to set up your Online Giving; especially if you are planning to give on a recurring cycle; an automatic draft. (And, please include your first and last name, along with your email when prompted) Of course, you can make one-time donations to The Lake through this same feature on our new website. Remember, any contributions made with a credit/debit card will include a 1.9% fee added to your contribution. Any contribution using your checking account has no fee attached to it.
Upcoming events at The Lake:
“I Still Believe”
This Sunday, at 9:30 and 11:00am, we finish up our teaching series, “I Still Believe”; inspired by a new faith-based movie by the same name, which opens in theaters today. The movie is about a true story of how life doesn’t always go the way we plan, and even though, as a believer, we know God can do miracles, how do we respond when our prayer isn’t answered the way we expected. Would “I Still Believe” in God if He doesn’t respond to my request like I’d hoped? And, what does it take for us to be able to wait on God, walk with Him, and worship Him no matter the situation or circumstance? What one main ingredient does a believer need to still believe when it seems to be falling apart? Find out this Sunday at The Lake.
This coming Wednesday evening, 6:30-8:00pm, our Lake Students will continue their study; “Translate” This six-week study will look at the “big words” found in the Bible and provide a theologically rich explanation to help students better understand the death and resurrection of Jesus and apply its meaning to their lives. All middle school and high school students are invited to Lake Students! To learn more about Lake Students, visit their website: thelakestudents.com and/or contact Eric Doane for what’s next.
